Oakwell 7.45 kick off
Blades line up with a 4-4-2 and more changes to a depleted squad due to injuries and Morgs being suspended for this game. The fans recieve some welcome news that Kyle Walker is fit and will play. A very welcome boost is the return of Jamie Ward and a massive cheer goes up when it is announced that Derek Geary will be on the bench. Jonathan Fortune will also play alongside Andrew Davies in the centre of defence.
Team: Benno, Walker, Killa, Davies, Fortune, Ward, Harper, Quinn, Treacy, Henderson (Captain), Evans.
SUBS: Cotterill, Williamson. France, Bunn, Little,Geary, Camara.
Before kick off, a minutes silence for Remembrance Day is immaculately observed by both sets of fans.
Then it`s straight into the action and a lively opening from both sides with United kicking towards the Barnsley support. The first chances fall to the Dingles however, with Macken`s overhead kick landing on the roof of Benno`s net and then Killa, playing again at left back, making a fabulous stop after the Blades get caught on the break. From the resulting corner, the ball grazes the crossbar from a Dingle header and is then cleared.
Ched Evans then goes on a strong run which forces a hurried clearance from the Tykes defence and following some good work by Harper, Treacy fires a long range shot just wide. Just before this, Benno has made a great save from a header which was heading goalwards, closely followed by a marvellous save from a shot heading for the top corner.
A cracking game threatens to boil over when Davies and Macken square up to one another with our boy leading in with his head. Both players warned by referee Clattenburg, looking gorgeous tonight in a lovely shade of blue.
The first chorus of "What`s it like to shag your Mum?" is aimed at the Dingles following two badly missed headers by Hendo, both failing to hit the target.
In the four minutes of added time, the Blades injury jinx strikes again. This time it`s Killa who hobbles off to be replaced, with a great cheer, by Del-boy. To his credit, Killa acknowledges the warm applause he receives from the Blades fans behind Benno`s goal as a great first half ends goal-less.
Another sign of how this season is going emerges during half time when I receive a text message from my brother that Benno has broken his thumb in the first half. This is confirmed when Mark Bunn takes his place for the start of the second half. The Dingles have stepped it up a gear and have the better of the opening minutes. Blades fans relieve the pressure on our boys by singing "You`re a wanker" at Toby Tyke who slinks off to his kennel, deeply hurt. Dingles fans return the favour as, having spotted Brian Howard in the Sky commentary box, tell him he`s a greedy 'illegitimate person'.
The pressure from Barnsley results in the first goal on 55 minutes. A throw in from the right wing is laid back to Anderson de Silva who promptly belts it into the top corner from about fifteen yards out.
The Blades storm back with Treacy beating three men in a great run into the box and his shot is well saved by Steele at the near post and on the hour, for once, some good refereeing goes in our favour. A free kick is nodded on by Hendo and Ched is bundled over by Steele and ex-Blade Kozluk for a clear penalty. Captain Hendo steps up to batter the ball into the roof of the net for the equaliser prompting a mini conga from some Blades which is broken up by the stewards. Dingles continue to turn the screw and go back in front shortly afterwards with a goal created by Macken. He breezes past two defenders on the right wing and crosses the ball hard and low into the six yard box. Bogdanovitch tries his best to get out of the way but the ball hits him on the thigh and drops over the line. After finishing his lap of honour round Barnsley town centre and being given the freedom of Cudworth, he is promptly substituted in favour of Iain Hulme who is soundly booed by quite a few Blades.
Blackwells last throw of the dice is to replace Treacy with Camara and on 82 minutes, the lads get a second penalty, courtesy of a trip on Kyle Walker, very similar to the one he didn`t get at Wembley in May. This time, Captain Hendo sends Steele the wrong way with delighted Unitedites going mental behind the same goal. The Dingles have been the better side in the second half and finish the stronger team but the Blades are determined to hold on for a well deserved point after four added minutes.
