One Change and a Debut for New Signing Andrew Davies from Stoke City Comes in to Partner Morgan at Centre Back, France drops to the Bench and Walker Returns to Right Back
Wednesday had the better start early on, Pushing the Blades into there own Area and winning 2 Fouls in dangerous positions in the first 4 Minutes, The First Booking coming to the Debutant Davies on 3.30 , In truth this was Harsh as he did win the ball fairly Ward, however, was a man Possessed, he was on fire, winning a corner just 2 minutes later, The resulting Corner was taken by Treacy into the Middle and cleared only as far as Montgomery, who ran the ball to the Left and Lost it to 2 Wednesday Defenders, then won it back before sending a delightfully flighted Cross for Davies to loop a Header towards Goal, Grant doing well to Palm Over
The deadlock was broken from the resulting Corner, Taken by Treacy, an Out-Swinger to Morgans head, it lands at the Feet of WARD, who swivels 180 degrees and makes no mistake from 3 Yards

From the restart, The Visitors began another attack, Tudgay and Varney linking well but Varney fired tamely at Bunn (9)
United began to dominate proceedings with great short passing, Ward, Henderson, Walker, Montgomery all involved but the next Attack came from The Visitors. A long ball over the top from O'Connor found Tudgay, again nodding on to Varney but Davies sneeks in and Varney pushes the Defender, upending him to concede the Foul (12)
A harsh free kick decision against Henderson led to the Next Attack, Another Long Ball over the top, Tudgay wins the Header and into the path of Varney but Morgan clears only to Potter who hits a stinging Drive into the arms of Bunn(13)
United, this time, Attack with the long ball. Evans winning the Header, knocks it back to Treacy, but Treacy hits the ball well wide (13)
United Again Attack, just a minute later, a Long Ball after Head tennis finds Evans, he knocks it back to Ward but the Visitors Defence concede the Throw, Walker takes long into the Area, Purse heads out only to Evans, Evans turns with a couple of Touches and Shoots, HENDERSON stood in front of Wood lifts his boot and the ball Loops between the 2 Defenders and wrong foots Grant

From the restart, Montgomery became the man to beat for the Visitors. Every attack Montgomery was there, The first one, being a throw from Buxton to Tudgay, he spins and shoots only for it to rebound off Davies to Potter in the middle, Montgomery combined with Evans tussle with Potter, Wood and O'Connor and comes out on top and plays the ball wide for Ward to Chase but just too close to the Spurr(16)
2 minutes later, the first bit of controversy Bunn clears the ball to Henderson who nods back for Ward but Johnson claims and passes Wide, Ward intercepts and Johnson Hacks the Striker down and runs on with the ball, The referee signalling play-on until Walker defends well and puts the ball out! Ward gets up Gingerly and holds his Left Hamstring (18) as Wednesday attack again Mongomery clearing from the Blades 12 yard Area (19)
Montgomery again was the Pain in the Backside for Wednesday on 21, when after a bit of pressure and neat build up, Montgomery combined with Treacy, thwarted yet another attack and started an attack of there own
Bunn had a period of play, as 4 times the 2 centre backs passed back to the Keeper, Ward, Henderson and Evans winning the clearance, the 4th clearance however landed on the head of Wood but he only Found Ward, who controlled beautifully and went on a darting run, Crossed in from the right only to find both Henderson and Evans didn't read it as good as he thought (23)
2nd bit of controversy followed just a minute later, Tudgay went on a long run through the middle of the park and passed to Gray out wide on the Right and he turned inside, only for Montgomery to not only Just get a foot to the ball but took the man too, The referee harshly booking the midfielder, even tho it was really his first offense (24)
Gray takes the Freekick, floated into the box, Tudgay rises highest and sends a bullet header towards goal, but Bunn makes a great save and knocks the ball over the top (25)
Again just 1 minute later, the referee, some distance away, blows in favour of the visitors after the Corner was cleared away Evans winning the ball but the wednesday midfielder going to ground (26)
The referee again being surrounded by Wednesday players blows for yet another free kick, again against Henderson but this time calls Morgan over to hear the Warning he's getting(30). Personally i couldn't see anything wrong with the challenge, What follows now is the most Defining moment of the Match:
The resulting free kick hit by the Keeper, Davies wins the header away, Harper collides with Potter and the Ball rolls loose! Ward with Electric Pace gets the ball but Johnson catches him and sticks a leg out, Ward instantly goes down, holding his Hamstring again and raises an arm for attention The medical staff come on and that is the end of Wards game

The only complaint I personally have really, The medical staff carried Ward around the pitch in front of the Away end, where he got spat on and things thrown at him, when he really should have been carried in front of the Kop to get the rapturous Applause he fully deserved from his Overall performance
Just 30 seconds later, United on the attack through Treacy and Henderson, Montgomery doubling up, O'Connor, 2 footed went in and took Montgomery and the Referee again did nothing, Treacy picked up the loose ball only for O'Connor AGAIN to do exactly the same and still get away with a booking, Dangerous tackles like that deserve more! United continue in the ascendancy, Montgomery again being pinnacle to the back 4, finding space and spraying the ball out to the wings, Treacy and cotterill switching wings to cause problems (35)
The next talkin point came when Walker took the ball forward, a great pass to Cotterill, who saw the run of Henderson at the far Post, Henderson having his arms up saying i'm not touching the man, Buxton Pulling at Hendersons Shirt, Headed into his own Net

United attack again just after the 46 minute mark, a Good nball from Montgomery, finds Henddrson who finds Evans, Evans sees the unmarked run of Cotterill and passes to him, but Poor control and it takes him too wide! he knocks it back for Montgomery to send a great ball into the Box, Henderson heading straight at the keeper

Wednesday started the game the brighter, Pushing United to there own Box in the opening minute Neat passing and well worked, A cross from the Gray on the Right, panicked the United defense, Walker over-head kicked the Clearance directly to Tudgay, who, cool as you like, hit it first time, low past Bunn into the left hand side of the net

Morning Blades......one happy chappy here this morning despite the VERY sore head and rather sore feet - I'll let Pastit explain why I had a lot of walking to do (no worries BTW mate)!!!

seriously nerve wracking ... they outplayed us for most of the game ... just as well they can't finish.

switch - must have been one biased commentary on RS........we outplayed them in every dept in the first half and wouldn't have been flattered to go in 5-0 up at half time. They were frightened stiff by Ward and that dirty 'illegitimate person' Johnson was at it AGAIN (news is that Ward will be out for 6 weeks) in the second half they put the pressure on and much as it pains me to say it played some really nice football and for 25 minutes or so were on top, but Grant also made 2 excellent saves in the 2nd half to keep them in it - one almost Seamanesque, god only knows how he got to that. At the end of the day though as Gannon says - all that will be remembered is we beat them 3-2 and Monday is gonna be a very happy day at work!!!

One more bit of news for you - word is we HAVE signed Fortune as well (have to say for the first 15 mins or so Davies looked all over the place, which I suppose is to be expected. He probably only met the lads a few hours before we played, but when he settled down he got better and better as the game went on. I'll give him time before making a judgement but he certainly looks preferable there to Walker with France at RB).

I haven't done the midweek predictions yet and I'm off to Southport now (competing in a 24hr race ) so I'll try and get them done either on Sunday night or Monday.

Tried to get thru to RS on the way home last night but no joy, really wanted to put those piggy callers straight who kept ringing up saying how proud they were last night & it didn't feel like they lost!! Really??? Watch sky plus, read the star, read the green un, watch the football league show, goals on sunday you Crappity Smackin dimwits!!! They will all show 3-2 Blades

How the Crappity Smack can you be proud of a team thats shipped 6 goals in 2 games & lost both you bunch of Crappity Smackin losers!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, back to Blades. Rockin atmosphere, Davies did well after a shaky start, ward excelled till he went off, Ref was garbage, Morgs was a rock, Hendo unlucky with the ref (how many yellow cards???) All in all a great night, more please blades

I was watching it Vamps. After the first few minutes of headless chicken stuff by both sides the pigs started passing the ball around much better than us and they could keep hold of the ball - except they broke down in the final 3rd, not taking their chances (or not creating them) and not getting people into the boy - and they couldn't defend either. We on the other hand seemed to have problems stringing more than 2 or 3 passes together most of the time and we gave them far too much space. Yeah Ward terrified them and if he'd stayed on he would've certainly caused them more damage but it worried the hell out of me that we couldn't seem to just step on the ball and slow the game down. We were constantly giving the ball away. They did the same in the 2nd half but managed some finishing this time. We on the other hand looked nervous even when we were 3 goals up and carried on giving the ball away unecessarily. We also seemed to be defending too deep in the 2nd half - probably in an attempt to stop them passing their way around us. AT 3-0 up we weren't playing like winners. We were for the final few minutes though. I don't think we really imposed ourselves on the game until the final 15 minutes when we started to move the ball around a bit and hold on to it more. It says something when the away side has more of the possession than the home team (even if it was only about 2% more in the end). Thought we deserved it in the end because we took our chances but 3-2 was a fair score line. I think if we'd actually slowed it down a tiny bit, been a bit more composed on the ball and stopped giving it away then we'd have murdered them.

Other thoughts:
- thought their fk goal was a bit lucky... the bounce seemed to catch bunn out
- thought the own goal was hilarious (yeah hendo did foul him just before that but he was fouling hendo as well).
- the ref was heavily biased in their favour (and that's not just R&W glasses)
- nice to see hendo score (thought it was an own goal until I saw the replay)
- our wing play terrified them
- thought davies had a good game. He didn't deserve that yellow early on (but then a lot of our yellows were undeserved while the pigs went unpunished for worse tackles).
- thought Monty was brilliant (he even had a little bit where he dribbled the ball around a couple of pigs and made a neat pass).

I rang our lass at half time, told her to go and check in the bedroom to make sure I wasn't laid in bed dreaming.
3-0 and it could have been more.
The talk at half time was that we could go on and really humiliate them...but some wendyesque defending in the 1st few minutes after the break, and a once-in-a-lifetime goal made the game closer than it should've been. This of course put our lads on a vervous edge, and gave the pigs curly tails a lift. However, we still had a couple of great chances to extend the lead that were well saved by their keeper.
Yes, they played some pretty stuff in the middle...so Crappity Smackin what? We scored 3, they scored 2. That's 3 points to the mighty red & whites.

I had a great night last night thanks to S36,i can't thank that guy enough.Very enjoyable sitting with Pastit,Ash and S36,and it was good to meet youFums,philblade and his mate the norwich fan .

Overall i think it was a cracking derby and over 90 mins we were the better team.Grunts were poor in that first half and they were Crappity Smacking dirty,that O'Conner should have seen a red card for that double challenge.I've seen the Ward injury on tv and i have to change my opinion that he was took out by the pigs,he wasn't,he pulled up with a hamstring pull and just got caught by Johnson(i think) Wardy is going to be out for about 6 weeks and KB said last night that he was already talking to a couple of strikers.

First half they couldn't cope with Wardy,he terrorised them with his pace.When he went off it changed the dynamics of the game,Cotts is a different player to Wardy,he gets to the by line more and crosses in.

Second half the pigs HAD to get at us,otherwise it would have been a mauling but after their second i felt we pushed them back deeper into the midfield and they didn't hurt us from there.

Fortune has been signed so we now have good cover at CB.The lad Davis did well for me,he wouldn't have had much of a training session(if any) and to come into that kind of game would have been difficult.Like i said last night to the guys,a CBs job is to clear it out of defence,pure and simple,anything else from them is a bonus,for the most part he did that.

Ched Evans is being closed down very quickly by defences and a lot of the time he has his back to goal,this is where he needs support from the rest of the team.There were times last night when he had no one to pass out to and it broke down.He needs to simplify things too,he tends to want to beat his marker too many times when a simple straight run at goal and shot at goal would be good enough.

Overall very happy with the events of last night and i'm still buzzing from the atmosphere. 10/10 game for me.
Oh and pastit,no need to leave the game mate poor old S36 was getting worried about ye.

Have to say monty was awsome last night, did what he does really well. Ward caused wednesday problems for once credit to johnson he knew straightaway when ward went down it was hamstring (on replay) good to see sportsmanship, last night showed though (and coventry away) how much we missed killa, davies settled in eventually but imo is no killa his booking was harsh so early and then on tightrope all match. I nearly crashed car on way to barnsley last night when ward scored the two dingles in the car with me were pissing, then shitting themselves!!!. For me the pigs knocked it around better thn we did but their two goals apart they couldnt get the final ball/finish right, and they were worse at the back than us. However pretty football doesnt win games, and pretty football hardly ever on its own wins any derby. Just so glad we beat them twats last night, like hsbc said (and a pig friend of mine) anyone who threw stuff at ward on the stretcher needs stringing up - he saw it said something and got threatned (wtf) told a steward who shrugged shoulders, good is that.

The balls into the box (first half esp) were superb treacy, ward, cotts and caused havoc.

I thought walker against johnson was a no contestant, esjajas different story, fair does he had no back up from cotts but he got turned far too easy, good thing is though walker got time on his side and hes only played a few games in hhis career, (nitpicking i know).

All in all having watched match on sky plus twice and listened in radio wednesday we just about deseverd it, who gives D'Urso though we did it and it feels real good. Just about as good as beating dingles (for me' anyways) .
