A few Changes to a United Side who, in Mid Week, Failed to shine against a League 2 Port Vale with Morgan, Walker, Evans, Treacy and Ward along Side £3M Striker Evans both Making there first starts to the Season, and First start and Home Debut for Evans.
It was clear from the outset, that Wards Pace was going to be Key to the Blades Attack, with him tracking back to cover McAnuffs runs
It took Ward just 3 Minutes to show the tactics were working after great play from Evans, linking well with Treacy, And Finding Ward, who lashed a Great shot straight at Goalkeeper Loach
Just 7 Minutes later, The break through was made
DeMerit, tackled hard into Evans but took more of the Man than, Referee
Oliver was going to allow
1-0 (12) Jamie WARD
Watford, opened their mean streak and Decided to press for an Equalizer from the restart but were just unable to break down a Formidible Partnership of Howard, Kilgallon, Morgan and Montgomery
) Ward failed to connect with a great low cross across the box United still piled on the pressure, throughout the team, A level of hunger which left the Fans mouth watering with the classy performance they were watching. Evans being the Architect doing what Henderson Couldn't (Mainly going for High Balls and winning the Free Kick rather than Conceding one
Still 1-0, a dangerous lead, Watford still had another opportunity, Taylor doing well to concede the corner, The ball was floated in from (a Gauled by the Home Fans) Smith, Bunn came out to take but ended up taking out Ellington with his Fist
only for the ball to drop to DeMerit
but Walker, the Saviour, Cleared off the line
as the referee blew for Attention for Ellington A Second Warning to United
The Home Side, reacted Positively
Then An old Style free Kick just outside the Box, Howard and Montgomery Shielding the ball, Treacy runs up to take, But Howard turns with the ball and sends a great cross over to Kilgallon, but he nods Narrowly Over
Just before the break
HT 1-0 (45+1) Ward(12)
Second Half:
Watford came out for the second period the stronger. Maybe seeing a Scalp after the amount of missed chances United had had in the First Half
But it was Ward, Again, that had the better chance in the opening Exchanges, Shooting a weak shot straight to Loach, While Henderson and Howard were running in (he really should have Passed)Watford, still came forward though, Great movement from (A smaller than I thought) McAnuff, and Jenkins making a chance for Severin to fire Over into the top tier of the Bramall Lane End
2-0 (63) Ched Evans
Shortly After, United were guilty of wasting good chances, 2 Shots from Ward and Henderson went tamely Clear as Uniteds Wide Midfield Ripped into the Watford Side with Comparable (to a Hot Knife through Butter) Ease
Ward was Brought off after his last Action was to run onto a Great through ball, Leaving 3 Defenders in his Wake, but his tired legs could only cause him to make the wrong decision, and try to round the keeper rather than shooting over him
A Standing Ovation and Deafening Applause from all corners of the Stands where duely given as the Little Striker Trudged off
Ward off, Cotterill On (70)Watford seemed to take more in, off the Noise, and came out to attack with a purpose. Severin using his body to out muscle Howard and Send his Shot goal bound, but Graham Deflected, Bunn had to Quickly change his shape to keep the effort out
Henderson's attempt at Goal was, again, Made and Followed by the Man Of The Match being Substituted
Treacy off, Reid On (77)
United Continued to press, wanting to add more onto the score sheet, But the Referee had other idea's
A number of decisions, mainly against Henderson, Blatant Hand Balls in the Watford Box, And general Really Biased Decisions Marred what could and probably Would have been a good Refereeing display! Firstly while stood in a great Position (As in looking straight at it, just 5 yards away) Cotterill attempted to Chip over Mariappa but the Watford Defender Caught the ball and knocked it down to his foot while stood in the box, Then immediately after, a Cross from Reid (He must change them Damn Blue Boots) was met by the fist of Again Mariappa
Only for the protest to be waved away
It was hendersons turn then, Reid making a great run after dispossessing McAnuff, found Henderson, but Henderson soon ran into trouble down the left side of the Visitoirs box, Another blatant Foul, Harley Pulled down the Striker while surrounded by 3 Defenders, The referee ran over had a quick look at the situation and blew for a Foul against Henderson
The last chance of the game, came to Cotterill, Playing in an Advanced Right Channel role (And more suited to it too, I May add) He receives the ball from, a Now more relaxed, Walker and trots off down the right, passing challenges from Harley and DeMerit
Evans again met a Rapturous Applause
while being replaced by Quinn (who got cruelly Booed ON
) (90)FT 2-0 (90+3) Stunning Victory, should have been a cricket score in all honesty
