Banter / It brought a tear............
« on: September 30, 2017, 09:48:37 am »
Read this post on another site. Had to share.......written from the heart and so true!

Thank you Chris - For making us United.

Born 1987 - I like to think I speak on behalf of anyone my age or younger (and possibly even older) when I say this is the most enjoyable football I have witnessed since Spackman, the most effective football since Warnock, and the most focused, organized, talented and committed I've ever seen at the Lane.

You understand Sheffield, our culture and our people, and you make it work to your advantage. 25,000 moaning fans, the poison chalice, a sinking ship... no one wanted this job. Except for you - you wasn't having any of it. You made a city believe when most thought hope had gone. For me this is already the best team I have had the PRIVILEGE to watch at Sheffield2 -  and no one can ever take that away.

As someone who sat crying in the stands with his dad as a ten year old boy against Palace in 97, to crying pretty much for the next ten years up to Wolves in 03 and Burnley in 08, it hasn't been easy.
But thanks to you I almost shed a different type of tear in the second half against Wolves on Wednesday night.
It felt like drawing a curtain on 29 years of either shit football, shit players, or shit results.
I never thought I'd see the day - we out passed, we out played, we out worked, we out defended, we out thought our opponent (a very good opponent) and we were always in control.

For anyone else who was there for that dark, dark day under Nigel the last game of the 15/16 season - it would have been impossible to predict we'd be here with you now.  If you offered me 1000 to 1 I wouldn't have took, mainly because I'm tight but also because I wouldn't want to waste a quid!

Yet... sat in Leppings Lane on Sunday, you could still hear blades carry the scars of yesterday "we'll throw it away" "hope they can keep a point" but I don't feel like that anymore, not with you in charge. It's not arrogance, but you've instilled belief - and slowly but surely, game by game, win by win, week by week, you're changing a victim and pessimist culture into a crowd of believers. A United and Happy crowd. We've had some shit over the years, as well you know, but somehow we're all starting to let that go.

Man management, game management, respect from the players, love from the stands - you really have it all. This is a new United, one you're creating. I'm just happy to be alive on your march. You're getting us exited.

Thank you Chris - for making us United.

Banter / Derby Day Memories
« on: September 25, 2017, 11:16:15 am »
OK - we've waited some time for this so let's have a thread for your memories and funny quips.

I spent the day racing round the Solent, trying to get glimpses of the score between races. Saw the line-ups and wasn't confident. Next update I got was 2-0 up and couldn't believe it. Heading back into Cowes was hoping to get back for the 2nd half in the pub but didn't make it - got an update at 2-2 and was swearing like a good'n with my crew thinking I'd gone slightly crazy. Got back in and saw the final score and was in complete Euphoria.........what an up and day gown and Im not talking about the waves......

Banter / Board changes at the Lane
« on: September 09, 2017, 08:12:10 am »
The McCabe family are on that seems to divide opinion at a football club, more than I've seen anywhere else. That may be because I pay more attention to United than any other team, but I've never seen our own fans so divided over a chairman/owner/shareholder/everything else he's been over the years.

There's no secret that whilst I'm not his biggest fan, I also support what he's done for the club and think we'd be in a much worse state without him and his family. I'm certainly not he of the fans clambering for him to leave the club. I think he's a very steadying influence and is a genuine fan of the club. He wants to see us do well.

With the latest announcement of board changes https://www.sufc.co.uk/news/2017/september/company-information/

I can't decide whether this is a good thing, bad thing, or just a natural progression. What I do know is there will be lots of speculation!! The Prince has always had representatives at the club, and hasn't been able to have more involvement due to FIFA rules and his role as Sports Minister. It's possible that this is just a natural progression now that role is over, or it could be a move for the Prince to become more involved before buying the McCabes out. I don't see the Prince having the same love for the club as KM and wonder how much support he'd give if we did end up being relegated.......

Anyway, now I've thrown my two penne three in I'll walk away and let the bickering begin!!!  :whi

Banter / Cup games 2017/2018
« on: July 25, 2017, 12:28:56 pm »
Little thread to talk about the cup games be it the League Cup (don't even know who this new sponsor of it is, let alone how to pronounce it - thought it was some sort of Cow at first!) or FA Cup and any plans.

I'll kick off with the League Cup game on Midweek - 9th August against Walsall. Anyone planning to go and fancies getting tickets together? I'm working in Liverpool that day and will be travelling back, so unlikely to make it for a beer, but should be back in time for the game. I'm in two minds about whether I'm going or not to be honest, but start of the season and the excitement from last year etc is kicking in and makes me think - come on, lets get down there.

Looks like this could be my first away day this season. I can certainly feel a pre match visit to Hooters coming on. If you fancy joining in then let me know cos will need to pre book a table.

Not sure yet whether driving or train. It's a nice easy walk from the station

Competitions / Fantasy Football - what's the thinking?
« on: July 12, 2017, 03:39:56 pm »
Quick survey before I start putting wheels in motion - is there any desire for a Fantasy Football league again this year? I can do a simple replication of last years and everyone who entered last year will automatically be entered anyway.

Alternatively (or indeed as well as) I can have a look to see if there's a Championship one so you can even pick some Blades for your team!

The great thing about these, is it takes little to any admin on our part but everyone can take part and get regular updates.

Same question applies to the Selco predictor league, which seemed to Fizzle out last year.

Well we finally got out of that awful league and what a season it was - some quality football, excellent away days and some great memories.

2017/2018 sees us back in the Championship so it's time to start afresh. We'e created the new set of boards for the season and here they are.

Happy bantering Blades - here's to another fantastic season under Chrissy Wilders Red and White Army

Friendlies confirmed

United's senior domestic pre-season programme can be confirmed.

Earlier this week, Stoke City were announced as the opposition for United's only home fixture of the campaign, with the Potters visiting Bramall Lane on Tuesday 25th July, kick-off 7.45pm.

Preparations will begin, as they did last summer, with a fixture against Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Look Local Stadium on Saturday 8th July, prior to the players heading abroad for a week where they are expected to play one fixture, which will be confirmed in due course.

Upon returning to the country, United will face Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday 18th July and Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Friday 21st July.

The final game before United begin life in the Championship, will be against National League outfit Eastleigh FC at Ten Acres on Friday 28th July.

Ticket details for all the aforementioned fixtures will be announced on the OS
