Post by: S36Reject on December 31, 2016, 10:26:38 am
As the title suggests..... discuss

Bogle -Yes Pls
Biriyani(Chessy Winger) - Yes Pls

Anthony Wordsworth for CMF seems a popular rumour

Ebanks-Landell? Wolves lost again today against QPR who can't buy an away win. I would be surprised if EEL is still here on Feb 1st

I still think we need a powerful central striker and a winger.

Whiteman gone to Mansfield for the rest of the season. Looks like another one who's hit the ceiling and stopped.

I think you are correct. We now have midfielders who are expreienced, and playing well, hence he will struggle to get much game time to impress.

Wonder if Reed will move out on loan as well. He has really dropped down the pecking order.

Reed definitely needs to organise a move as he's clearly not going to get a start any time soon barring injury to key players.

Feckin taters - just looked him up on wiki and stats are shocking!!

35 league appearances - no goals.

43 total appearances (senior) - 1 goal  :yikes:

Isn't he supposed to be a striker/winger??

I think someone already has!

He's now scored something like 10 in 4 for MK in his first loan spell, 12 in 10 for Gills and 5 in 6 for MK this season  :yikes: quick, sign him up before Chelsea nab him!

He was only just 17 at the time and playing in the U-23s (still only 21). Seems he plays out wide left most of the time, so along with Done we'd have two left-sided attacking players that can't score  ;D

He must have something about him to be playing for Wales at such a young age and we were desperate for something down the left on Saturday.

Maybe, but if he that good, and can't always get in the MK & Fulham teams, then he can't be that well thought of.

Reed is a regular for the England U20's, so someone must think he has something about him. He is another one who can't score, and not likely to start many games in the near future.

Reed will never play for the full England team. Williams has played 7 times for the full Wales team. I prefer Coleman's judgement to that of a recently sacked L1 manager mate ;-)

I never said he would, and I agree, he never will. My comment about Williams is that he can't guarantee himself a starting position with MK Dons, hence I don't see him being someone that will be better than what we have.

Good signing for me.

Competition and cover for already the best midfield in the league making it even better!

Just need cover for EEL, replacement for Chapman and a prolific strike partner for Billy, although I think Lavery will come good soon in terms of scoring his fair share.

The future's very bright  :ok:

Yes I like the Carruthers signing - great age/experience balance and hopefully can grow into his role in the Championship :-)

Bolts all I'm saying about Williams is Wilder is no mug, and if he sees something in the lad I'm not going to question his judgement (yet!)

OK, you mentioned the C word so I'm going to talk about the elephant in the room and risk jinxing the second half of the season... How would this team cope in the Championship and what areas would need strengthening to either consolidate in mid-table or, dare I say it, have a crack at the play offs?

Some questions to answer? Will Billy, another year older, still be a prolific striker in the Championship? Is our defence solid enough? Do we have enough pace? With the love around the place at the moment, how many season tickets would we sell?
Title: Re: JTW- what you heard?
Post by: lingsbord on January 04, 2017, 09:33:16 am
I think we're in good shape Roma and I think our ability to survive in the Championship will be largely down to two very similar factors. The first, as you point out, is Sharp's ability to deliver at a higher level when next season he won't be far off 33 years old. The second is the acquisition of another dominant striker. With a powerful partner to play off I reckon Sharp has another good season in him for sure, maybe 2, but we can't rely solely on him. If Lavery can get up to speed quickly he's at a good age to develop with us, but I do think someone like Omar Bogle could do a great job alongside Lavery or Sharp and form the spearhead of the attack, like Callum Wilson did a couple of seasons back for Coventry/Bournemouth.

With the acquisition of Carruthers I think the rest of the side is good enough to make a decent fist of it without too much tinkering. As for season ticket sales, I can absolutely guarantee there will be at least one  :ok:

His Wikipedia page has received an unofficial edit. First it says he's currently on loan at "top of the league" Sheffield United, which suggests it's written by a Blade having a laugh, and this view is cemented by the addition of "UTB" at the end.

I hope this piece of work turns out to be prophetic rather than a bit pathetic. We'll see.

Not concerned about his Wolves contract and if that means we can't get him next season - let's just get out of this league first and then worry about the squad!

Good news about EEL, although his contract extension at Wolves isn't such good news. Maybe Wolves have done this to make it harder for us to sign him permanently next season when we will probably, hopefully, be one of their rivals. If they think so much of him I would have thought they would have taken him back.

Not sure about Riley. I am not convinced we need him. I have just watched the U23 goals from yesterday and David Brooks scored another good goal, and so did Sparky. He is a left-sided midfielder who I think would be as good as Riley.

Another striker that we may be looking at.

Not sure about Riley considering he's midfield and can play Right Back. Could be cover for Freeman I suppose, and maybe the three musketeers in the middle.

Be interesting to see how much he plays. If what I've heard is true, we'll see quite a bit of him in the first team squad...........(rumour btw is that when he plays Man Utd pay majority of his wages, when he doesn't we do).

Don't usually get excited about JTF but this is shaping up to be a good'n!

Lings I heard about O'Shea as well last weekend (and it's him that wants to come, not so much we've shown an interest - If we were to take a player from our neighbours, I'd prefer to take him over Evans TBH.

Mr Wilder - I salute you!
Title: Re: JTW- what you heard?
Post by: Roma on January 18, 2017, 02:01:40 pm
Hopefully now Evans has extended his deal at Ches-Vegas we can all move on and forget about him.  O'Shea is a decent L1 player but doubtful he's better than what we already have, though we could do with a bit more cover, though Carruthers gives us options when he's back in Feb.

I think Riley gives cover for Lafferty and gives us a wide winger when we need to switch to 4-4-2 to combat 11 man defences.  I get that Done puts in 150% every minute of every game, but what I don't get is his all round effectiveness as a winger.

Now we need to sort out some cover for Freeman, although worse case scenario I expect we may be able to recall Brayford should we need to.

Interesting deal re Riley's wages, makes sense really if it's true.

Thinking ahead, we will need a striker for next season, unless Lavery delivers on the hints of promise shown so far.

I think O'Shea deal is dead now that Riley's overcome the hamstring injury

Evans? He hasn't signed a new 1 year deal, the club has triggered a 1 year extension, so anyone who comes in will need to pay a fee. We don't need him, he's another season away from being properly up to speed.

Shame about Carruthers but he's only a few weeks away.
Title: Re: JTW- what you heard?

The Hanson deal is almost done - allegedly :-)

The fee is agreed, they're haggling over payment terms but there's no clear view on whether Clarke is part of the deal or not.

Clarke and Hanson left out of both squads yesterday.

Wouldn't be my choice, but we need someone in the box who can win headers so the wide men have some confidence to put a ball in. We would have won yesterday with Hanson on for that last 20 mins.
Title: Re: JTW- what you heard?
Post by: Eeyore on January 22, 2017, 05:23:15 pm
We definately lack height up front and I see Hansen as being a good option but not necessarily as a starter - the only thing I don't want is to revert to long hoofball cos we've got a big lummox up front

Jay O'Shea is still on the cards despite bringing Riley in. Talks definitely happening between us and Vegas but looks like a loan, although his deal with vegas runs out in Summer anyway so if we want him on a permanent deal it can get sorted at the end of the season..

There were a couple of teasers in CW's interview after the Gillingham game that I may have read more into than intended.  He heavily criticised the strikers, except Sharp, for not being clinical enough. He then dropped in that some had been knocking on his door saying they're not getting enough game time. I wonder if that "someone" was Clarke?  We definitely need a target man for when the passing game isn't paying dividends or we can't break 11 man defences down.  I wonder if CW thinks Clarke has had his chances and is pissed him off moaning he's not getting more playing time.  Bringing in Hanson gets us the target man and, if the swap rumour is true, gets rid of Clarke.  If so, this is at least decisive and much better than under Adkins who would have persevered with Clarke, or left him in the U23s stealing a wage...  Let's see what happens.

From CW's words I also assume Done will be on his way once Lafferty is recovered, as we have Riley to cover left wing-back now and Done has to be one of the strikers he was having a dig at for not being clinical enough.  I'm not going to jump on Done's back like some of the Blades' fans, but putting in 100% every game actually counts for nothing if the ball doesn't end up in the back of the net.

Good move for Ramsdale, but it does leave us very light in experienced goalkeepers. As far as I am aware we now have Moore & Long plus whoever is in the U18's goal.

Not sure about Harrison. I don't think he will start many, if any, games. He might come on if we are struggling.
Title: Re: JTW- what you heard?

I've heard a rumour that we can loan him back if Moore got injured and the rules of the emergency loans window allowed, and that the price could go up to 2.5m if he plays in the PL, with a significant sell on clause too.

Now, considering most PL teams have foreign keepers these days, he would have to be exceptional to become a 10m or above player.  Maybe he is, but I've not seen evidence of that yet and think he's quite small for a keeper (that didn't stop Casillas though).

If he was a prolific striker, I'd feel differently.  But decent GKs for championship level can be bought for a couple of hundred k, a decent cover keeper even less.  Does Ramsdale really give us anything Moore doesn't.

So, that considered, CW now has just shy of a mil to spend and he could get a decent deputy for Moore with that and still have half a mil to spend on strengthening the side when we go up.

All things considered, i think this is a good deal providing we've got some good sell on and appearance clauses.

That might be OK providing that Bournemouth haven't got an injury and he is playing. Would they sanction a loan with us having a goalkeeper who isn't really a novice?

Lets hope Moore stays fit, cos he is the best we have had for a while.

Good move for Ramsdale, but it does leave us very light in experienced goalkeepers. As far as I am aware we now have Moore & Long plus whoever is in the U18's goal.

Not sure about Harrison. I don't think he will start many, if any, games. He might come on if we are struggling.

Chapman is an excellent player Bolts and I think he'll probably ease out Done down the left OR he'll challenge Duffy for a role behind the front two. Really nice player.

Goalkeeper sitch? Just hope Moore stays fit as you say. Long has been playing very well in U-23 but it's not the same when you have the kop baying at your back.

Really glad to see Bob Harris getting a deal at Brizzle Rovers. For the life of me I can't understand why we let him go. For me he's the mirror of Freeman and gave us great balance as a result. Hussey certainly wasn't an adequate replacement (yet?) and Lafferty.........is he really any better than Harris?

Any road up, in the forked-tongue one we trust.

Couple of things on Ramsdale.  First of all, apparently we're not allowed to have him back on loan as we have three capable "senior" keepers on the books so the emergency loan clause doesn't count.

Second, I've heard that Bournemouth now have 8 goalkeepers in their squad! WTF are they playing at considering they're right in the mix for a relegation battle now?  Anyway, irony is we could be playing in the same division as Ramsdale's new club next season.

Think you've put the inverted commas on the wrong word mate - the one before would have been more appropriate!

This was mentioned on What's App, but just putting it here for completeness.

Some of the other forum, and at least one, admittedly unreliable, tabloid are suggesting we're bidding for Lee Gregory for 2m but there are a host of Championship clubs also interested (yeah, and they're different because?).

Anyway, my mate (a very pretty blonde lady as it happens - shh don't tell Mrs Roma  :ok: ) works on Radio Millwall and was sat four seats away from CW at Rochdale Tuesday night.  Yes, as I explained to her, he's probably there watching Millwall's hoof-ball tactics with a view to the upcoming game, but rumours aren't anything without over elaborations after all...

This Lee Gregory thing's being doing the rounds for a few months. He's looking for a move back up North and CW's certainly an admirer. As you said though Roma, "Championship Clubs are interested" - yes, bloody right we are!  :ok:
